I suppose St. Jude came through for me the other day. Ghost dropped some goodness into the way images are handled, which was my main blocking issue for moving to the new platform.

They still don't have a full-fledged media browser, and probably won't for some time. But they took care of making images load more appropriately, and made image re-use possible.

So as of sometime last night, this blog is running Ghost. I've modified the default theme a bit here, and will be experimenting with it more in days to come.

Some differences:

  • There are no more comments or contact form. No great loss, since they were rarely used. Where there were comments on older posts, I'll be gradually copying (most of) them over to the posts they went with. If you want to reach me, please do so on Twitter. (Unless you know me well enough to have my email or phone – in which case, please write or call.)
  • The old WordPress categories are not carried over here, and the old WP tags have been removed. Ghost uses a single Tags taxonomy system, which I'll probably implement in some way soon. I tend to re-arrange the site structure every few years anyway, and now is a good time to revisit that.
  • Images may not show up. I'm still in the process of moving them from the old server. There are also likely a few WordPress shortcodes that will now appear as [text in brackets] until I find and fix them.

Moving to a new server and a new system with a new (and evolving) theme is both exciting and a little disorienting, a lot like moving into a new home. But I have to say, it feels good to start looking forward again.

Welcome to the new digs!
