We used to visit the farm in Cornwall, VT in July or August.

The whole family would pack into the car. It’s a 12 hour ride from Canton, OH.

Nearly every year we got to make hay. It was great fun for us tossing square bales around the wagon. Stacking them in the barn. Taking turns steering the tractor.

We also got to milk the cows.

And fly airplanes. Real ones.

We were city kids. For us it was all new and exciting. For our cousins, farm work was just the same old work. I’m sure they were puzzled by our excitement over it.

When we were back in Cornwall yesterday, my cousin, January, mentioned that we ought to come back again sometime soon so Silas could fly an airplane.

Thanks, January. We just might take you up on that.
