I googled why New Years Day happens when it does.

The answer: no good reason. The festival of Janus — the two-faced god looking forward and back, from the ancient Romans was the inspiration for Julius Caesar to decree it as the new year.

Some cultures pick a new years date based on a lunar calendar. Some choose an equinox or a solstice. Some use a combination of these: the 2nd new moon after the winter solstice. Businesses start their fiscal years on July 30.

So you can pick any date you want to mark a new start.

That’s great news for anyone who wants to make a resolution or start something fresh: you don’t have to wait. Do it now.
